Uroxatral (Alfuzosin)

Description

Uroxatral is an alpha-adrenergic inhibitor. Its main component is alfuzosin hydrochloride.

 

Uses

 

Uroxatral is used in the treatment of the symptoms of benign prostatic hypoplasia (BPH). This disorder results in the increase in size of the prostate. A large number of indicators of BPH are difficulties with urination. Those suffering from BPH find it difficult to begin to urinate and often experience a weak stream of urine. They also have to urinate quite frequently, especially at night. This results in interrupted sleep. Uroxatral eases the muscles that are present in the prostate as well as the bladder. This allows individuals to urinate with greater ease.

Dosage

 

Always follow the prescription that your doctor has provided you with. Do not take Uroxatral in lower or higher dosages than you have been instructed.

 

This medication should be taken orally.

 

The recommended dosage for Uroxatral is 10 mg, once a day. To experience the optimal effect of this medication, it should be taken with a meal. Uroxatral is much less effective when taken on an empty stomach.

 

If you forget a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If your next scheduled dose is due soon, skip the missed dose.

 

Do not take two doses together.

 

In the event of an overdose, call your local medical emergency services.

 Lightheadedness
 Abdominal discomfort
 Issues with digestion
 Burping
 Pain in the body
 Wet cough
 Lowered libido
 Problems with breathing
 Experiencing difficulty with bowel movements
 Irritation of the throat
 Blocked ear
 Blocked nasal passages
 Fever
 Lowered sexual function
 Decrease in sexual performance
 Discomfort in the face
 Discomfort in the chest
 Fatigue
 Breathlessness
 Cold-like symptoms

 

In the event that you experience any of the side effects after taking this medication, contact your physician immediately.

 

Contraindications

 

 Do not use this medication if you are under the age of eighteen.

 

 Do not take Uroxatral if you have experienced an allergic reaction with alfuzosin.

 

 Do not take this medication if you any form of liver damage.

 

 Inform your physician if you have been diagnosed with low blood pressure or if you are taking medications that may lower your blood pressure. Uroxatral lowers the level of your blood pressure and is not safe for individuals who have a previously existing condition.

 

 Tell your doctor if you have a history of kidney or heart problems.

 

 Inform your physician if you are taking medications for a prostate condition.

 

 Some drugs have a negative interaction with Uroxatral. These are antibiotics, drugs for tuberculosis, antiviral drugs (for HIV especially), antifungal medications, and drugs for heart problems. You should also not simultaneously take medicines similar to alfuzosin. Among these are doxazosin, tamsulosin, and terazosin.

 

 Uroxatral can have an effect on your cataracts. Before you have any surgery on your eyes, inform you surgeon or your doctor.

 

 Inform your doctor of any medications, prescribed or over the counter, which you may be taking. Tell your doctor of any herbal supplements that you may be consuming.
