Description
The main component of Rogaine is minoxidil. It belongs to a family of drugs known as vasodilators. This results in the widening of blood vessels.
Uses
This medication is used in the treatment of hair loss, particularly in men. It reduces the symptoms associated with male pattern baldness. It will help the regrowth of hair on the sides and the back of the head.

Dosage
Always follow the prescription that your physician has provided you. Do not use Rogaine in lower or larger doses than instructed.
This medication is a topical agent.
Clean and dry the area of the scalp you wish to treat.
For the solution, fill the applicator to the 1 ml line or add 20 drops. Part your hair and apply the solution the area of the scalp that is affected by the hair loss. Gently massage the solution into your scalp. Allow this to fully dry before you use any other products on your head or before you go to bed. Repeat this procedure twice a day. Do not use more than 2 ml on your scalp a day.
For the foam, add half a capful of the foam to your scalp. Allow the foam to dry completely before you apply any other products on your head or before you go to bed. Repeat this procedure twice a day.
Do not use Rogaine more than you have been instructed to.
You may need to use this medication regularly for a period of at least four months to notice any results.

Rare side effects experienced with this medication are:
Burning sensation on scalp
Increase in hair growth on face
Puffiness
Soreness of scalp
Loss of hair
Problems with vision
Lightheadedness
Loss of consciousness
Erratic heartbeat
Headache
Unusual feeling in limbs
Unusual gain in weight
If you experience any of these side effects, contact your doctor immediately.
Contraindications
Inform your doctor if you are pregnant and have been prescribed with this medication. Contact your doctor if you wish to begin breastfeeding your child.
Do not use Rogaine if you have had an allergic reaction to an ingredient in Rogaine.
Do not use this medication if you have only experienced hair loss on the front of your head.
Do not use Rogaine if you are unsure about the cause of your hair loss. Contact your doctor if you have experienced a sudden loss of hair before taking this medication. The underlying cause for the hair loss may not be helped by Rogaine.
Do not use this medication if your scalp is not healthy. Rogaine will only exacerbate symptoms such as itchiness, inflammation, or pain.
Do not use Rogaine if you are already using other medications on your scalp.
Inform your physician of any medications that you may be taking before you are prescribed Rogaine. Also tell your doctor about any herbal supplement or over the counter medication that you may be taking.
