Description
The main component of Pariet is rabeprazole sodium. This belongs to a group of drugs known as Proton Pump Inhibitors.
Uses
This medication is used in the treatment of gastrointestinal ailments. It works by lowering the acidity levels in the stomach. Some of the digestive problems that Pariet helps is acid reflux, ulcers in the stomach, and Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome. All of these ailments are caused by the excess production of acid in the digestive system.
It also helps in the alleviating of heartburn, problems with swallowing, and a continuous cough. It is also thought to lower the prevalence of certain cancers of the esophagus.

Dosage
Always use the prescription that your physician has provided you with. Do not take Pariet in a larger or lower dose than instructed.
This medication should be taken orally.
The recommended dosage for Pariet is 20 mg. This should be taken once a day, daily. Take this medication at least a half hour before eating your first meal.
Do not crush or chew this tablet. It may increase the side effects that you experience.
In the event that you missed your dose of Pariet, take it as soon as you remember. If your next scheduled dose is due soon, skip the missed dose. Do not take two doses together.
In the event of an overdose, contact your nearest medical emergency services.

Contraindications
Do not take this medication if you are pregnant. Inform your doctor if you are about to begin breastfeeding your child.
Do not take Pariet if you have a rabeprazole allergy.
Inform your physician if you have had an allergic reaction to any other proton pump inhibitors.
Do not take this medication if you have a history of liver disease.
Do not take Pariet if you have a tumor in the stomach.
Inform your physician if you have been prescribed atazanir, or if you are HIV-positive. One of the side effects of this medication is increase in infections and this may be dangerous for individuals with HIV.
Do not take this medication if you are taking ketoconazole or itraconazole. Pariet may inhibit the properties of these medications and lower their effectiveness.
Inform your doctor of any medications or herbal supplements that you may have been prescribed. These may negatively interact with this medication.
This medication may cause lethargy or drowsiness in some individuals. If it has a sedating effect on you, do not drive or operate heavy machinery.
This medication should not be prescribed for children.
