Description

Nitrazepam is a prescription medication that goes by the brand name Mogadon. It typically comes in tablet form and is a type of medication called a benzodiazepine. The primary use of this medication is to help to treat people who suffer from severe forms of insomnia. Now insomnia has different degrees of severity and it’s important that you understand just how severe yours is before you decide to try and use this.

Insomnia is the inability to get to sleep at night or at least you have a hard time getting to sleep. And even when you can the quality of your sleep might not be what it needs to be in order to refresh you for the following day. The best way to determine the degree of severity concerning your insomnia would be to keep a sleep journal. A doctor would then use that in order to help quantify just how bad your problem was. Maybe they might ask you about what you do during the day or right before you go to bed that might be causing the problem.

Nitrazepam is effective at helping give severe insomnia sufferers the help they need, but understand that its purpose is to help you in the short term. The reason for this is because a doctor wouldn’t want to put you at risk for dependency. Plus, as you take the medication you become more tolerant of it. This means it’s not going to work as well for you as it did when you first started taking it. Other options are available, but a doctor is going to have to learn more about the source of your insomnia before they feel comfortable giving you anything else.

 Loss of memory (amnesia).

 Disturbances of the gut such as diarrhea, constipation, nausea, vomiting or abdominal pain.
 Difficulty in passing urine (urinary retention).
 Changes in sex drive.
 Low blood pressure (hypotension).
 Blood disorders.
 Jaundice.
 Unexpected aggression, restlessness or irritability (tell your doctor if you experience this).
 Nightmares or hallucinations (tell your doctor if you experience this).

Please understand that the probability of you experiencing any of the more severe side effects is very low. Common side effects such as getting a headache or feeling a bit sick in the beginning are common and should go away after a short period of use. What you’ll have to do is make sure you take the drug exactly according to doctor’s directions.

Also do your best to monitor your insomnia condition so that you can tell right away if the drug is working for you or not. As stated before, Nitrazepam works well, but it’s not designed to be a long term solution to what might be a very serious problem.
