Description
Naprosyn is a drug which uses naproxen as the main ingredient. It is a Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drug (NSAID).
It works by reducing the hormones that can lead to pain and inflammation in the human body.
Naprosyn is used in the treatment of pain and inflammation caused by rheumatoid and osteoarthritis, dysmenorrhea, tendinitis, ankylosing spondylitis and bursitis.
Important data
Do not use Naprosyn if you have had an allergic reaction to an NSAID before, or if you have allergies to aspirin and ibuprofen.
It can greatly put you at risk of a fatal heart attack or even a stroke. This is true especially if you are using it for extended periods.
Do not take Naprosyn right before or right after you go in for coronary bypass surgery or any heart surgery. Tell a doctor if you are on it.
If you have chest pains, weakness and the other symptoms of a heart attack or stroke, call emergency medical services immediately.
This drug has also been shown to cause intestinal and stomach bleeding, both of which can be fatal. If you experience bloody, tarry and black stools, call a doctor.
Tell your doctor if you have a history of heart diseases, blood pressure, cholesterol, diabetes, smoking, heart attacks, strokes, stomach ulcers, asthma, liver diseases and kidney diseases.
Do not take this medication in the last trimester of pregnancy as it is possible that the drug causes harm to unborn children.
Do not breastfeed a newborn while taking Naprosyn as it has been shown to pass into breast milk. Do not give this drug to anyone under the age of 2.
Dosage
Take Naprosyn exactly as your doctor tells you to. If your doctor doesn’t specify dosage, you can refer to the provided label for accurate dosage.
Never take this medication in bigger doses or for a longer period of time than you have been told to. Take the minimum effective dosage for your condition.
Do not break the Naprosyn pill. Swallow it whole without crushing it or chewing it.
If you are taking the liquid form of the drug shake well before measuring using a pharmaceutical measuring cup or spoon.
Depending on the brand that you use, the dosage is going to differ. If you use a different drug with naproxen as the main ingredient, tell your doctor.
If the drug is being used by a child, monitor their weight and tell a doctor about changes in weight. The dosage will be changed accordingly.
Missed doses and overdose
Naprosyn is taken when needed. This means you probably won’t have regular doses. However, if you do, take a missed dose as soon as you know.
If you are about to take the next dose, ignore the one you missed. Never take an extra dose to make up for a missed one.
If you overdose, call your local poison hotline immediately. Also contact emergency medical services as soon as you can.

Contraindications
Do not take this drug with antidepressants, lithium, probenecid, warfarin or other NSAIDs.
Stop taking Naprosyn immediately if you have an allergic reaction.
