Description

Imitrex is a triptans used to treat migraine headaches.

Imitrex belongs to a drug group named as triptans. These drugs directly affect the function of serotonin in the body.

It is used to treat migraines as it facilitates blood flow to the brain by limiting the narrowing of blood vessels due to serotonin.

However, Imitrex is not a permanent solution for migraines and will not be able to reduce the frequency at which you experience migraine related symptoms such as nausea and dizziness in the future.

Dosage

This drug should be taken orally with our without food. The dosage and frequency of taking the drug will be decided by your doctor according to your health condition. If the symptoms of migraine fail to diminish after taking the recommended dosage, you may be able to take a second dosage after about 2 hours of the first one. However, it is best to consult with your doctor prior to doing so.

If the migraines do not reduce even after using the drug for a few days, you should stop taking the drug any further and consult with the doctor regarding the issue.

The most common side effects of Imitrex include drowsiness, flushing, dizziness and nausea. These side effects will reduce and eventually completely diminish as your body gets used to the drug.
