Description
Fucidin is a topical antibiotic. Its main component is fusidic acid.
Uses
Fucidin is used to treat bacterial infections of the skin. It is particularly effective against skin infections that have been caused by staphylococcal bacteria. These ailments include impetigo, infected hair follicles, infections of the skin surrounding the nails, infected eczema, and septic wounds.
Fusidic acid is antimicrobial in nature. It functions by inhibiting the bacteria from producing certain essential proteins. The lack of these proteins means that the bacteria are unable to reproduce, thus prevented from multiplying. Fucidin does not kill the bacteria that is causing the infection. Rather, it stops it from spreading. The bacteria that remains is destroyed by the body’s natural defenses.
Contact your doctor to see if Fucidin may have any other benefits for you.
