Fasigyn is the antibiotic that belongs to nitroimidazoles group of medicines. It works through stopping or killing the growth of protozoa and bacteria. This drug will not work for treating viral infections like flu or cold.
Also called as tinidazole, the medication is used to cure some kinds of vaginal infection and certain parasite infections like amebiasis and giardiasis. The drug treats only the infections mentioned above. Misuse, over use or unnecessary usage of this antibiotic can result in decreased effectiveness of the medication.
How to take Fasigyn?
In order to prevent upset stomach, you need to take this drug with food as prescribed by your doctor. The medical professional may ask you to take single dosage or take the drug once in a day for 2-5 days. Actually, the dosage is as per your medical issue, the kind of infection etc.
In case you face any problem swallowing the tablets, you can mix or crush them in your food or your chemist may also make suspension in the form of syrup. In case your pharmacist prepared the suspension, remember to shake the medicine properly before taking.
Vomiting, nausea, bitter taste in mouth, upset stomach, cramps or pain in stomach, constipation, dizziness, diarrhoea and loss of appetite may be faced. In case any of such signs and symptoms take place or worsen, consult your doctor at the earliest.
Some other side effects of taking Fasigyn may include vaginal discharge or itching, indigestion, headache etc. The medication may even cause your urine or tongue to darken in colour. But this is harmless.
Before taking Fasigyn
Before you take Fasigyn, you should always ask your pharmacist or doctor if you are prone to the ingredients of this drug or even to tometronidazole or some other allergies. The drug may have some inactive ingredients that may cause serious allergic reactions. So it is advisable that you consult the doctor. Also tell the doctor if you have any medical history and that too of blood problems, nervous system problems like seizures and neuropathy, yeast infection, liver disease and kidney dialysis.
What if I miss a dose?
You should take the missed dose as early as possible. Skin missed dosage when it is time for the scheduled next dose. Never try to take extra medication just to compensate the missed dosage.
Interactions with other drugs
Your pharmacist or doctor would be aware of the possible interactions and will monitor you. Don’t start, change or stop the dose of Fasigyn before asking the pharmacist or doctor. Some medications should not be used when taking Fasigyn or for at least 2 weeks after the last dosage as serious interaction of disulfiram may take place.
You should keep in mind that you should never breast feed while taking Fasigyn. But you may start nursing 3 days after taking the last dosage. Also, do not keep the milk that you collect with breast pump while taking Fasigyn. It is also recommended that you take Fasigyn for complete course of the medication to get actual results.
