Description
Eulexin is a non-steroidal anti-androgen agent. Its main component is flutamide.
Uses
Eulexin is used in the treatment of prostate cancer in men. Testosterone promotes the growth and proliferation of prostate cancer cells in the body. Testosterone is a form of androgen. The antiandrogen properties of Eulexin inhibit the androgen receptors. This counteracts the effects of these hormones on the prostate. This results in the decrease in rate at which the tumors grow. In certain instances, it even results in reduction in size of the tumors.
Eulexin is usually used along with luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone agonists to treat the tumors caused by prostate cancer. This treatment may also be a precursor to radiation therapy to destroy the cancerous cells.
