Endep

Description

Endep is used to improve the mood and feelings of individuals. It is an antidepressant that belongs to a class known as tricyclic antidepressants. The active ingredient in Endep is amitriptyline.

Uses

Endep is used in the treatment of individuals with mood disorders such as depression. It works to increase the sensation of wellbeing in depressed individuals. It also lowers feelings of anxiousness and pressure. It increases the energy levels in people and creates better sleeping patterns.

This medication may also be useful in reducing the symptoms associated with eating disorders such as bulimia nervosa. It may also be included in the treatment plan of other mental disorders such as anxiety disorders and panic disorders.

Endep is also sometimes used to treat nerve pain and to prevent the onset of migraines.

Dosage

Always follow the instructions provided to you by your physician. Do not take Endep in lower or higher doses than you have been directed to.

This medication should be taken orally.

For outpatients, the total recommended dose for Endep is 75 mg. For inpatients, the total dose recommended is 100 mg. These dosages may be divided into two or more smaller doses.

The larger dose is usually best taken before bedtime to reduce the sedative effects experienced during the day.

If you missed a dose, take your prescribed dose of Endep as soon as you remember. If your next dose is due soon, refrain from taking the missed dose and take the scheduled dose instead. Do not combine the two doses together.

In case of Endep overdose, contact your emergency services.

Side Effects

There may be certain side effects associated with taking Endep. If you experience any of these side effects, contact your physician immediately:

 Discomfort in the abdominal region
 Anxiety
 Unusual bowel movements
 Blood in stools
 Changes in urination patterns
 Difficulty urinating
 Blood in urine
 Bleeding from the oral cavity
 Vision problems
 Discomfort or tingling in the body
 Disorientation
 Tremors
 Seizures
 Loss of consciousness
 Hyperactivity
 Loss of concentration
 Erratic or unusual heartbeat
 Changes in blood pressure
 Changes in appetite
 Problems associated with hearing
 Fever
 Fatigue
 Changes in sleeping patterns
 Lack of coordination
 Changes in weight
 Changes in speech patterns

Contraindications

Inform your physician if you become pregnant and have been prescribed Endep. This medication may be unsafe for your fetus. Endep can be transferred through breast milk to your baby. Inform your doctor if you wish to breastfeed.

There are certain medications that may cause adverse effects when they interact with Endep. If you have been prescribed with Endep avoid taking arbutamine, disulfiram, drugs that interact with your thyroid, NSAIDs, antiplatelet drugs, and blood thinners. Medications prescribed for high blood pressure or that suppress the production of acetylcholine may also interact negatively with Endep.

Do not use this medication with MAO inhibitors as they may cause a fatal reaction. Cease taking drugs with MAO inhibitors at least two weeks before you start taking Endep. You should wait at least two weeks after you have stopped taking Endep before you begin taking drugs with MAO inhibitors again.

Inform your physician of any medications you may be taking before you are prescribed with Endep. Your doctor needs to know, especially, if you are taking any drugs to stabilize your heart rate or any other heart function.

Inform your doctor if you are taking any medications that have a sedative effect.
