Description
The main component of Dutas is dutasteride. Dutasteride inhibits the functioning of an intracellular enzyme that converts testosterone to dihyrdotestosterone (DHT).
Uses
This medication is used in the treatment of hair loss in men. It targets the symptoms of male patterned baldness, in particular. Dutas reduces hair loss and promotes the regrowth of hair.
This medication is also useful in reducing the size of an enlarged prostate in men. It also helps relieve the symptoms associated with this ailment. This includes reducing the urgency to urinate as well as the frequency with which an individual urinates. It also promotes flow of urine from the bladder and reduces nighttime urination.

Dosage
Always follow the prescription that you have been provided with by your physician. Do not take Dutas in larger or lower amounts than you have been directed.
Take this medication orally.
The total recommended dosage for Dutas is 0.5 mg. This dose should be taken once a day. You can take this medication with or without food.
Do not crush or chew Dutas.
If you forget to take your dose, take it as soon as you remember. If your next scheduled dose is due soon, skip the missed dose. Do not take two doses together.
In the event of an overdose, call your local medical emergency services.
Side Effects
There may be certain side effects experienced with Dutas:
Discomfort in the chest
Enlarged veins in the neck
Extreme lethargy
Erratic heartbeat
Erratic breathing
Difficulty with breathing
Puffiness in face and limbs
Changes in weight
Cough
Irritation of the skin
Lightheadedness
Decrease in libido
If you experience any of these side effects call your physician immediately.
Contraindications
This medication should not be used by women or children. This medication may cause birth defects in fetuses. Do not use if you are pregnant or wish to become pregnant.
Do not use this medication if you have had an allergic reaction to dutasteride or any other 5 alpha-reductase inhibitor.
Inform your physician if you have a history of heart problems.
Inform your doctor if you have any issues with your kidneys, bladder, or urination.
Inform your physician if you have a history of liver disease or problems.
Inform your doctor if you have prostate cancer or any other ailments concerning your prostate.
Do not take this medication with Ritonavir. It may exacerbate the side effects experienced with Dutas.
Inform your physician if you have noticed any physical or functional changes in your breasts.
Inform your doctor if you have noticed a change in the physiology or functionality of your genitals.
Do not donate blood while you are taking Dutas. It is also best if you refrain from donating blood at least six months after you have ceased using this medication.
Inform your physician of any medications that you may have been prescribed. Also tell your doctor about any herbal supplements or over the counter medications that you may be taking. These may have negative interactions with this medication.
