Desyrel is a medicine that is used in the treatment of depression. It helps to boost mood, make an appetite and give energy boosts throughout the day.
The drug Desyrel also reduces the symptoms of depression like severe anxiety and insomnia. The main ingredient of Desyrel is trazodone.
Trazodone increases serotonin levels in the human brain. Serotonin is a naturally produced chemical that is linked to mood and happiness.
Tell your doctor before taking Desyrel if you are allergic to trazodone, nefazodone, or any other chemicals and other natural factors.
Talk to your doctor about your family’s medical history. Tell them about bipolar disorders, suicide attempts, heart conditions, hepatic and renal diseases, blood pressure issues and glaucoma.
If you are driving or operating heavy machinery, make sure you are alert. Desyrel can impair your cognition and make you dizzy.
Desyrel sometimes causes Long QT syndrome, which makes the heart beat a lot faster than normal. This is fatal in rare cases, and can lead to fainting and other symptoms.
If you have heart problems, a slow heartbeat, a family history of heart disease and other cardiac issues, your risk of long QT syndrome is increased.
In addition to this, the syndrome can be increased if you have low blood potassium levels. Taking diuretics can react and lead to vomiting and diarrhea.
If you are going in for surgery, tell your doctor about any pills and medication that you are on including herbal and prescription drugs.
The severe effects of this drug can be more common in older people and children. If you are currently pregnant, use the medication only if necessary.
Depression and other mental conditions are very serious problems. If you are pregnant or planning on becoming so, tell your doctor.
Never stop taking Desyrel unless your doctor tells you to. It can also pass to a nursing child so tell your doctor if you are going to be feeding a newborn.
Before taking Desyrel, read through the instructions. Follow the doctor’s instructions closely. Consult with the doctor if you have questions.
Desyrel is an oral medication that is taken twice daily a most. It is usually taken after a meal or even a snack.
If you are affected by drowsiness, take your dose before bed. If the doses are uneven, take the larger one before bed.
The amount you are prescribed depends on the severity of your condition and your response to the medicine. To help alleviate side effects, your doctor might prescribe a dose that increases over time.
Missed doses and overdose
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is nearly time for your next dose ignore the one you missed. Never take extra to make up for it.
