Description
Dapoxetine is used to treat the sexual dysfunction in men. Dapoxetine belongs to a family of drugs that are known as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.
Uses
Dapoxetine is used in the treatment of premature ejaculation in men during sexual intercourse. It is a popular hypothesis that diminished levels of serotonin in the body are responsible for the processes involved in premature ejaculation. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter that is produced in the brain as well as the intestines in the human body.
Serotonin affects libido, sexual desire, and even sexual performance, particularly in men. The low levels of serotonin have been typically viewed as a cause of depressive symptoms. It has now also been linked to causing premature ejaculation in men. The exact cause for how serotonin causes sexual dysfunction in men during sexual intercourse is unknown. A direct effect between low levels of serotonin and premature ejaculation, however, have been established.
Dapoxetine is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). This refers to a group of drugs that diminish the amount of serotonin that is reabsorbed by the body. When less serotonin is reabsorbed, the levels of serotonin in the body are automatically increased. This leads to better control of ejaculation in men. This increases the duration of sexual activity.
