This drug is also used to reduce bleeding during surgical procedures and to treat certain illnesses amongst individuals suffering from hemophilia.
How it Works
Cyklokapron is not a type of hormone. It is simply a medication that belongs to a group of drugs known as antifibrinolytics. This medication works by reducing the speed of blood clot breakdowns.
This reduces the possibility of uncontrollable bleeding.
This medication will not stop your period or treat other menstrual symptoms. It will only reduce excessive bleeding.
Uses
This medication is mainly used amongst women in order to reduce excessive bleeding that occurs during menstruation. It is also used to reduce the risk of heavy bleeding during certain surgical procedures such as cervical surgery. It can also be useful to treat various other bleeding problems such as nosebleeds, bleeding inside the eye amongst individuals whose blood does not clot normally.
Dosage
This medication is taken with or without food. The usual prescription is 2 tablets three times per day. Your physician might start with a lower dose in order to help your body get accustomed to the medication. Do not bite or chew this medication. It must be swallowed whole in order to reduce the risk of side effects.
You must not take more than three doses a day. If you do increase your dosage, it can lead to severe side effects such as vision problems. If you want to change your dose schedule, consult your physician first. Do not skip your dose or double it if you miss one. In case you accidently miss a dose, just follow your regular timetable.

One-sided weakness
Seizures
Slurred speech
Severe vomiting
Severe headaches

Precautions
Make sure to follow the precautionary methods given below in order to reduce the danger of side effects:
Do not take this medication before your period.
Do not take this medication for more than 5 days in a row.
Do not take more than 6 tablets a day.
Do not use this medication if you are a senior citizen since you might be more sensitive to the side effects.
Take regular lab tests and eye exams to stay informed about the condition.
Do not take this medication with alcohol since it can result in extreme dizziness.
Do not use this medication during periods of pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Self Care
Do not use this medication with hormonal birth control pills. This can increase the risk of heart attacks, strokes and other types of blood clots. The risk of developing such side effects during this treatment is higher if you are overweight or a heavy smoker.
The safety and effectiveness of this medication on children has not been confirmed yet. So, be extremely careful when using this medication on children below the age of 18.
