Cipro is brand name for the generic antibiotic drug, Ciprofloxacin. It is drug which belongs to fluoroquinolones group of drugs used in the treatment of different kinds of bacterial infections. Also people who are exposed to anthrax are treated using this drug.

What to know before taking Cipro

How to take Cipro?
Usually Cipro is administered every 12 hours, but your doctor can advise best how to take the drug. Strictly follow the instructions mentioned on the label of the drug. Larger or smaller doses can harm you equally. Prescription period should be maintained do not take this drug longer than prescribed.
You can take Cipro with or without food. However it is important to take it with a full glass of water. Keep yourself hydrated when you are taking this drug. Drink enough water during the day. It is important to note that Cipro should not be taken with dairy products or calcium fortified juice. You can take these items into your regular diet but not alone. Reason is such food products are known to make this drug less effective. The extended-release version of the drug should be swallowed as a whole and not crushed or chewed.
What if I miss a dose or overdose?
Try not to miss a dose as it gives opportunity for infection to grow resistant to the drug. Avoid following medicines within 6 hours of taking Cipro, as they are known to make the drug less effective:
Antacids like Maalox and Rolaids
Ulcer medicine sucralfate like Carafate
Supplements high on iron, calcium and zinc
