Ceclor (Cefaclor)

Description

Ceclor is an antibiotic drug of the cephalosporin group which is brand name for generic drug Cefaclor. Use of this drug is made in treatment of various kinds of bacterial infections. However the use of this drug can also be made for treatment of other conditions with other medicines.

What is Ceclor?

If you are allergic to any other antibiotic like Keflex, Ceftin and others it is best to avoid this drug. Patients of kidney or any kind of intestinal problems should inform their doctor about their condition before using this drug. It is important to understand that this drug is only for bacterial infections and has no effects on viral infections like common cold and flu. Always complete the treatment for the prescribed period even when symptoms of infections are treated. It is important to complete the medication otherwise infection can become more resistant to the drug.

Diarrhoea is a common side effect of antibiotics. However if you suffer from diarrhea on using Ceclor, stop the medication. Do not take any anti-diarrhoea drug without consultation with your doctor.

Cefaclor is known to pass through breast feeding to babies causing harm. Therefore no not use this medicine if you are breast-feeding a baby.

How to take Ceclor?

It is mandatory to maintain the prescribed dosage of the drug for many reasons. Also do not take this medication for longer than prescribed period. It is advised to take this drug with meal or within half an hour of meal. Take Ceclor with full glass of water. The chewable tablets should not be swallowed but chewed.

What to do if you miss a dose or overdose?

Never try to compensate by taking overdosing for the missed dose it can have severe side effects. If you remember you missed the dose and there is still time for next dosage you can take the missed dose.
In case of overdose seek immediate medical attention if following symptoms occur.

 Nausea
 Vomiting
 Diarrhea
 Stomach pain

What precautions to take?

It is common to witness diarrhoea when taking antibiotics. However, if you suffer from diarrhoea when using Ceclor it is important that you avoid taking any anti-diarrhoea medicine on your own. Consult with your doctor and follow the recommendations made.

Sometimes diarrhoea can be a sign of new infection and if there is bloody or watery discharge then immediately consult your doctor. Pregnant women should be extra careful while using this drug. If you are pregnant or planning to get pregnant consult your doctor about the medication and its long term effects.

Serious side effects of the drug include:

 Diarrhea
 Numbness, tingling and muscle weakness
 Unusual bleeding
 Jaundice
 Seizure
 Weakness and confusion
 Chills and body ache
 Sore throat and skin rash
 Loss of appetite and shortness of breath

However if symptoms are mild like nausea, headache and stomach pain then you need to panic. Inform your doctor about the side effects and follow the instructions.
