Capoten (Captopril)

Generic Name: Captopril (KAP toe pril)

Brand Names: Capoten

Where to buy Capoten online?

Capoten is a brand name for captopril, an angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor, used mainly to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) in adults. Capoten is available by physician prescription.

Drug Information

ACE inhibitors like Capoten inhibits the enzyme that converts angiotensin I to angiotensin II in the renin-angiotensin-aldosterone hormonal system that regulates blood pressure and fluid retention in the body. By doing so, Capoten can relax the muscles in blood vessels allowing fluid to flow more freely, thus relieving high blood pressure. Lowering elevated blood pressure can reduce the risk for strokes, heart attacks and kidney problems.

Capoten is also commonly used to treat congestive heart failure, acute myocardial infarction, left ventricular systolic dysfunction and kidney complication caused by Type II diabetes.

ACE inhibitors like Capoten are often prescribed with beta blockers or calcium channel blockers for treatment of hypertension.

Capoten is available as tablets in 12.5, 25, 50 and 100 milligram doses of the active ingredient.

Inactive ingredients of Capoten include corn starch, lactose, microcrystalline cellulose and stearic acid.

Capoten dosage will vary as per physician recommendation, age and severity of the condition.

Capoten is administered orally on an empty stomach at least an hour before eating. Usually, the drug is administered two to three times a day. It’s recommended that Capoten dosages are taken same time each day.

The effects of the drug will take up to two weeks to be noticeable for hypertension patients. For heart patients, the benefits might not be noticeable even up to a month.

It is highly recommended that Capoten dosages are taken regularly even if the patient “feels fine.” Hypertension patients do not experience “feeling sick” symptoms. The prescribed dosage is essential for the drug to be effective.
