Description
Betnovate belongs to a family of drugs that are known as corticosteroids. Its main component is betamethasone.
Uses
Betnovate is used to treat several different skin disorders. These ailments are typically either inflammatory, irritated, or allergic in nature. This medication reduces the effects of allergens or irritants on the skin. It also reduces patches of skin that may greasy or scaly such as seborrhoeic dermatitis or psoriasis. It can also be used to eliminate condensed areas of rashes that have been caused by excessive scratching. It can also reduce the effects of inflammatory skin disorders such as discoid lupus erythematosus (DLE).
Inflammation of the skin is typically due to some form of irritation to the skin. This results in the immune system of the body releasing substances that the blood vessels within the skin to dilate. Betnovate helps to reduce the amount of these substances that are triggering the immune system. This causes the symptoms of the skin disorders to decrease.

Dosage
It is important to always follow the prescription that has been provided to you by your physician. You should not use Betnovate in amounts that are smaller or larger than what you have been prescribed.
This medication should be applied to the surface of the skin.
The maximum dosage of this medication should be 45 grams per week. Betnovate should be applied to the affected areas of the skin. This can be done once or twice a day.
This medication should not be used for a period that is longer than two weeks.
Side Effects
There may be certain adverse reactions experienced when using Betnovate. Some of this side effects that may be experienced are:
Burning sensation of the skin
Blisters appearing on the skin
Dryness of the skin
Flaking of the skin
Thinning of the skin
Presence of bruising on the skin
Irritated skin
Inflammation of the skin

Contraindications
Inform your doctor if you have become pregnant and have been prescribed Betnovate. Do not begin breastfeeding your child before seeking medical advice from your doctor.
Do not use this medication if you have experienced an allergic reaction to one of the ingredients in Betnovate.
Do not use this medication on children younger than thirteen years old. The effects of Betnovate on small children have not been researched.
Corticosteroids may negatively affect the growth rate in children and adolescents. In the event that a child is prescribed with this medication, you may need to track their growth rate.
Avoid using other medications that may also contain corticosteroids.
Seek advice from your physician before getting any vaccinations while you are using Betnovate.
Do not use this medication for skin treatments that it has not been prescribed for.
Do not use Betnovate if you have recently had chicken pox, tuberculosis, shingles, or measles. Do not take this medication if you have recently had a vaccination.
Betnovate may not be suitable for certain skin infections or for individuals with thinning skin.
