Antivert belongs to a family of medications that are known as antihistamines. Its main component is meclizine.
Uses
Antivert is used to treat symptoms of motion sickness. It reduces the feeling of nausea and decreases the probability of vomiting. It also diminishes lightheadedness or dizziness that may be associated with motion sickness. This medication is also used to treat diseases that disrupt the functioning of the inner ear. This helps to decrease the presence of vertigo in individuals. Antivert works by inhibiting the histamines that are naturally produced by the body.

Dosage
You should always adhere to the prescription that is provided to you by your physician. Antivert should not be taken in dosages that are lower or higher than have been advised by your physician.
This medication should be taken orally.
To treat the symptoms of vertigo, the total recommended dosage is between 25 mg and 100 mg a day. This medication should be equally divided between doses.
To treat the symptoms associated with motion sickness, the recommended dosage is between 25 mg and 50 mg of
Antivert. The dose should be taken an hour before commencing a journey. Repeat doses can be taken every twenty four hours.
If you forget to take a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If your next scheduled dose is due, do not take the missed dose. You should not take two doses together.
In the case of an overdose, call your local emergency medical services immediately.
Side Effects
Some of the adverse effects that you may experience when taking this medication are:

Contraindications

This medication may not be suitable for individuals with asthma or glaucoma.
Consuming alcohol while taking Antivert may increase the possibility of experiencing certain side effects of the medication.
This medication may reduce the effectiveness of your judgment and your reflexes. If you experience these symptoms, do not operate heavy machinery or drive.
Tell your physician if you have an enlarged prostate before you are prescribed this medication.
Tell your doctor about any medications, prescribed or over the counter, which you may be taking. Inform your physician about any herbal supplements that you may be consuming.
