Adderall vs Modafinil

Conditions such as narcolepsy, sleep apnea and ADHD impact a lot of people in everyday life. These conditions can make it tough for a person to function in their day to day lives. It causes people to suffer on a social level, on a productivity level and makes it hard for them to sustain relationships. There are two primary medications on the market that are designed to help people who suffer from these types of conditions. The first one is Adderall and the second one is Modafinil.

Bother of these medications are very good at what they do, but are there any distinct differences between the two of them that potential users should know about? Well first let’s focus on what they have in common. Both of them are prescription medications and therefore can only be had if a person has a prescription. Second, each of these can help with distinct sleeping conditions. Each treats narcolepsy for example, but Modafinil can treat sleep apnea as well as shift work sleep disorder.

Adderall is mainly used to treat narcolepsy and attention deficit hyperactive disorder. And it can also be used to help enhance cognitive function. Some people have even been known to use it solely for recreational purposes. Modafinil can is used recreationally as well, but it’s used more because of its ability to help people focus better and as a result do better at work that requires a strong attention span. Modafinil has even been referred to as the “smart drug” and is thought to be part of the inspiration behind the movie “limitless” starring Bradley cooper.

Adderall and Modafinil are both central nervous system stimulants. Each of them functions in a similar way, but each of them has different abuse risk levels. In this case Adderall has been said to have more potential for abuse then Modafinil. Modafinil is deemed more risky if a person consumes it in particularly high amounts. So it could be said that the latter is slightly safer to use than the other if the goal is to stay away from addiction issues. However, this is going to come down to the person using it.

Some have stated that in the long term it’s better if one had a choice to use Modafinil, because it’s said that the over effects aren’t as heavy as what they might be with Adderall. People who have used Adderall state that at times it feels like the drug is almost forcing them to become stimulated, which by itself isn’t a problem. However, they state that the comedown is harder.

With Modafinil some people have said that the stimulation it brings about feels more welcomed. In any case, neither of these should be used with alcohol and neither of these should be mixed with other stimulants. Each should be taken under the careful watch of a doctor in order to make sure that they’re working properly and that the dosage isn’t too high or too little. Also, each of these might have different reactions based on other medications someone is using when taking them.
